HSG Results

Holy freaking pain. There is no amount of ibuprofen that can prepare or "numb" the pain for an HSG. Ok, maybe there is but I didn't want to be all loopy on pain pills. I took 1/2 a hydrocodone pill an hour before my exam and it still hurt really bad. Boy was I nervous and ready to get it over with. I made sure I ate a big breakfast and plenty of water because I am notorious for being shaky and nauseous when I'm nervous and/or stressed.

When they started the exam they kept asking if I was okay, I realized that I was breathing REALLY hard and fast. I told them I was fine, just ready for it to be over with. The doctor or radiologist, I don't know what his title is, talked to me the whole time which was really great. There was a nurse in the exam room with me and I reached for her arm just so I could hold something. I was able to watch the dye go through my cervix and through my fallopian tubes.

By the time he was done, my entire body was shaking. The nurse kindly got me some water and then I felt like I was going to throw up. I laid back down and tried to focus on my breathing as the doctor went over my HSG results. He said my tubes were open and the dye flowed through beautifully and quickly. My uterus has a dip at the top which he said threw up a red flag. This is called an Arcuate uterus.

He said it's more common in petite framed women because our torso's are small and the uterus just doesn't grow entirely straight at the top. Apparently sometimes that can cause some issues sustaining a pregnancy. He said my dip wasn't too bad so it'll probably be okay. I'm eager to hear what my RE says and what the new one says about it on the 24th. But other than that he said everything looked great and healthy, woohoo.

He left and I attempted to sit up and go to the bathroom because I still felt like I was going to throw up. The nurse walked with me and I sat practically naked on the cold floor begging myself to not throw up. Well I didn't but I did faint. The nurse said I just blacked out for a second but it felt like a long time. I laid there with a wet washrag and felt so embarrassed. She brought me a couple of mini snickers and that helped a ton.

I sat in the bathroom for about 15 minutes trying to regroup and stop shaking. I'm so thankful that my mother-in-law came with me. We grabbed some lunch and then I took my other half of  hydrocodone. I felt a lot better once I was outside and had some some fresh air. I've just been laying around all afternoon snoozing on and off. Wishing Megan was here singing "Soft Kitty" to me ;)

What a day, so thankful that it's over with. Hopefully my RE will call soon and let me know his thoughts on my dipped ute. Off to have some ice cream...

HSG

Tomorrow is my HSG.

::grabs paper bag::

I'm really nervous about the pain of it. I know we have to do IVF no matter what so I'm just nervous that it's going to hurt really bad. I don't handle pain well either...big baby right here. My mother-in-law is taking me so I don't have to drive back by myself just in case I'm hurting. I would probably just wing it if the exam were here in town but I have to go to KC which is a little over an hour away.

I'm prepared to come home afterwards and watch a chick flick an nap. Maybe MIL will sing soft kitty to me ;)

Wish me luck!

P.S. I found a really cool video on youtube about IVF in the lab. Head on over to our blog to check it out. It's really interesting!
